Ingredients: Black Erva: Choose loose leaf or a special terere blend for a stronger flavor. Guampa (optional): This traditional gourd cup adds authenticity, but any cup will work. Bombilla (straw): This metal straw with a filter prevents ingesting yerba mate leaves. Cold water: Filtered or spring water is ideal. Ice cubes (optional): Perfect for a hot day! Instructions: Prepare your Guampa (optional): If using a guampa, fill it halfway with warm water and let it sit for a few minutes. This helps to remove any bitterness and open up the pores of the gourd. Discard the water afterwards. Fill the Guampa (or cup) full with yerba mate. You can adjust the amount based on your desired strength. Tilt the Guampa at a 45-degree angle. This creates a separation between the yerba mate and the empty space in the cup. Pour cold water into the empty space. Aim for a slow and steady stream to avoid over-saturating the yerba mate. You want it damp but not soggy. Add ice cubes (optional): This will further cool your terere for a refreshing taste. Insert the bombilla through the yerba mate, ensuring the filter is submerged in the liquid. The filter prevents you from ingesting the leaves. Enjoy! Sip your terere slowly through the bombilla. As you drink, add more cold water as needed to maintain the desired flavor. Tips: Start with less yerba mate and adjust to your preference. Experiment with different water temperatures. Some prefer it very cold, while others enjoy a slightly warmer terere. You can add natural flavors to your terere. Try citrus peels, mint leaves, or even a splash of fruit juice (use a separate bombilla for flavored terere). Clean your bombilla regularly to prevent buildup and maintain hygiene. Enjoy your homemade terer!
