Description
HMB, -hydroxy -methylbutyrate is a metabolite of the essential, BCAA amino acid Leucine and is synthesized in the human body. It produces about 0.2-0.4 grams per day. Standard doses used in research studies have been around 3 grams per day. L-Leucine itself is becoming a more and more popular ingredient as a great amino acid for bodybuilders. When compared to Leucine, HMB appears to be significantly more powerful on a gram per gram basis at constricting the rate of muscle protein breakdown but is less effective than Leucine at inducing muscle protein synthesis.* Due to this, HMB is marketed as an anti-catabolic support agent rather than an anabolic agent.* HMB appears to be an interesting supplement for the purpose of reducing muscle wasting during periods where muscle breakdown is accelerated and should assist athletes currently on a reduced calorie diet.* Some advantages of HMB are that it does not cause fat gain or water bloat, its non-stimulant and has no hormonal effect.* This product is designed for athletes to be used both in the off-season and during contest preparation. HMB is suitable for long-term continuous use. As a dietary supplement, research suggests HMB may promote muscle gain, prolong muscular endurance and enhance overall muscle recovery by minimizing the amount of protein broken down in the muscles after extended periods of exercise.*
