Description
Description Alpha lipoic acid ALA, also known as thioctic acid, is an organosulfur compound that was first isolated from bovine liver around 1951. Naturally found in a variety of foods including organ meats, spinach, broccoli, and yeast, it's synthesized in small amounts in humans and animals. ALA functions as a co-factor for certain enzymes necessary for mitochondrial energy production. In the mid-1980s, it was recognized for its potent antioxidant properties, where it has the unique ability to be both water and fat soluble, thus it can work in various parts of the body.
