Description
CRACKER JACK brand, the confection known for its "popcorn, peanuts, and a prize," was introduced in 1893 at Chicago's first world fair. The brand's unique name was trademarked after one of its salesmen ate the product and exclaimed "That's a Cracker Jack!" The process for keeping the molasses-covered popcorn morsels from sticking together was discovered in 1896---and is a secret formula still in use today. The CRACKER JACK brand has a rich history. It is immortalized in the song, "Take Me Out to the Ball Game," which was written in 1908 by two men who never saw a baseball game until years after they had composed their "baseball anthem." Sailor Jack and his dog, Bingo, have been on CRACKER JACK brand packages since 1918 when the founder's young grandson was the model for Sailor Jack. CRACKER JACK brand introduced "a prize-in-every-box" in 1912 when toys were first inserted into every package--a tradition that continues today. CRACKER JACK is a product of Frito Lay, the world's leader in convenient foods and a division of PepsiCo.
