About the BrandDare Foods, a family-owned company, operates seven bakery plants in Canada and the United States. The company traces its roots all the way back to 1892, when Charles H. Doerr produced and sold cookies and candies from his small Ontario grocery store. Both the family and company names were changed to Dare in 1945. The company now makes cookies, crackers, and melba toast under the Bremner, Breton, Dare, and Grissol brands. Dare also bakes cookies for Canada's Girl Guides. Its Real Fruit and Juiced Up candy brands include gummies, hard candies, jelly beans, and mints.In 2004, in response to growing consumer concerns over nut-based food allergies, Dare became one of North America's first major food manufacturers to declare all of its manufacturing facilities "peanut free."
