Description
UMEBOSHI AME candy was created by the first generation Eitaro during the Ansei era of the Edo period, taking great pains to make this high-class confectionery more popular among the common folk. It achieves a full-bodied flavor you will never get tired of by heating and concentrating syrup, which was made by melting top-quality, high-purity sugar with a unique and rich flavor over an open flame at high heat. Compared to other candies, Eitaro-ame candies are made from high purity sugar and do not stick to the teeth. They are also known for their crisp flavor that does not irritate the tongue. This candy was stretched into a stick (bou ) shape and cut into a crimson-colored finger-size form resembling an umeboshi (pickled plum, ) using scissors. The people of Edo coined it UMEBOSHI AME (), a pun made from style and wit. "Eitaro-ame" is Eitaro's representative product, continuing to provide an unchanging flavor by inheriting manufacturing techniques that go back to the Edo period (1818).
