Description
Vitamin E, a group of eight fat-soluble compounds first discovered in 1922 by American researchers, plays a crucial role in human health. Identified in experiments with rats as a necessary factor for reproduction (hence its original name, "Factor X"), vitamin E has since been found to function as an antioxidant, combating potentially damaging free radicals in the body. Naturally occurring in a variety of foods including nuts, seeds, and leafy green vegetables, vitamin E has also been manufactured as a supplement since the 1930s.
