Description
Unlike regular folic acid, methyl folate - the biologically active form of folic acid- is absorbed even in the presence of MTHFR, a genetic variant that affects up to 50% of women and is known to interfere with the bodys ability to process folic acid. Since folate helps lower homocysteine, a risk factor for Alzheimer's, methyl folate is especially important for elderly people who have a MTHFR mutation.
